The capital of the FYR Macedonia, Skopje is a lovely city, an interesting mix of cultures and religion. It has many buildings dating back to the Ottoman era. Places of interest include the Old Bazaar, Skopje Fortress, many mosques, Memorial House of Mother Teresa, the famous Stone Bridge (Sultan Mehmet the Conqueror Bridge) over Vardar River, the city park, and the Macedonian Arch. On one side of the Vardar River bisecting the city live Muslims, and on the other Christians.
Summers in Skopje are hot and humid; winters are cold. The ideal time to visit the city is spring and fall.
